Sports drama will attract many types of audiences from young to old and both genders but they are most likely to attract a male audience over the age of twelve as most sport dramas have an age certificate of twelve and above. This is because some of the scene you find in this genre are quite mature and you would need to be a certain age to understand them.

We will aim our film at males ages fifteenth to early thirties as we feel that we can relate to what men want to see in the genre we are doing so therefore we can make it as entertaining as possible for them.

As our character will be doing most of his exercise by dig running we will not need many props but in some of the scenes he will be using props to help him exercise such as the equipment in the gym but we do not need to get any of them specially for the film opening so there is no worry their. We also need to get a boxing bag so that we can get a couple of clips of the main character working out on it.

As our film opening will be a sports drama we feel that it is appropriate to make our main character to be doing some sort of physical activity and work out. So therefore we need him to be wearing sports attire. What I mean by that is in the scenes when he is outside he will be wearing jogging bottoms and a hoodie which is very common in people working out, outside and for the scenes he is inside working out In the gym he will be wearing shorts and a t shirt.

Sports drama is hybrid genre as there are two genres combined together into one film. we decided to use this genre as we feel that they work very effectively with each other and many great films have been made with this hybrid genre.

The typical conventions that are involved in a drama film are as follows:

• There are real life situations with realistic and relatable characters, settings and stories.
• Portrays a journey of a characters development
• Intense social interactions
• Dramatic storyline to move the audience emotionally
• The heart of the drama is the conflict between the characters
• Conflict can include inner/outer realistic struggles, hardship and pain.
• There is a form of realization at the end happy/good ending possibly where the main character achieves there goal that they have been working the whole film on.

Spots is a sub genre in films commonly accompanied by drama or comedy in this case in will be drama so therefore these are typical conventions of a sports film.

• They have a sports setting such as a gym. 
• They can be fictional or non fictional
• Always contain an athlete
• They contain a specific sporting event that the athlete participates in and is the focus of the film.
• Constant state of emotion
• There is a disruption or failure in the film that the main character overcomes
• There is normally relationship between characters.

Genre- This film is a sports film evident by what is going on as the main character is going for a run.
 

Editing-  The editing is very slow for what is going on as he is going for a run, I presume it is so the could get many shots that make the audience appreciate the beautiful scenery.    
 

Sound- There is non diegetic music that has got an African style this is very appropriate with the location and mise of the film. There is also diegetic sound but it is very quite and not used too often as there is the children cheering and there is also two ladies commenting on the main character body.
 

Camera Angles-  They use a range of camera angle as they have a few shots of the scenery but the main type of camera angle they use is tracking shots of the main character running through the country.
 

Mise en scene- this film opening is set in an African country, this is evident due to the large dry plains that the character is running through. They use more than one location as at the end of the opening the character runs through a market area where people are selling fruits.
 

Titles-  The titles have a very African style as they are very colourful with the use of greens and blues. It reminds me of a traditional African attire.
 

Character- There is one main character that the camera focuses on and a few extra character to give the opening more atomnsphere such as the children at the begining cheering for the character to cross a finish line they made and the two ladies that make the comment about the main character when he runs past them.

Creed analysis

Genre

The genre of this film is clearly established within the first couple of opening minutes. It is clear that the genre of this film is action, this is due to the fact that within the first 2 minutes of the film there is a fight within a juvenile prison.

Narrative

The narrative of this film is also made clear to us within the first couple of minutes. This is made clear to us as the main actor is seen clearly punching another inmate, this connotes with the story of the film as the main character becomes a boxer walking in his dads foot steps later on in the film.  

Character

The main character of this film is made very clear to us in the two opening minutes, this is because the camera follows one of the boys around, and the camera also displays a low shot of the character as he punches another actor, showing us that this is the character that we will be following. 

Atmosphere

The atmosphere of this film is once again made clear to us in the opening two minutes of the film. This is because a negative atmosphere is displayed from the off with boy being involved in a fight within a prison, which connotes the idea that it is come be a youth journey that the character is going to have. 

Theme 

The theme of this film is established early on, as the camera displays a close up shot of the character clinching his fist, which connotes early on that this film is going to be about boxing.

Sound

The sound used within this two minute opening clip is mainly dietetic sound, being the sound of the punches as they hit and the talking and shouting of all the characters, this shows us as an audience that the diegetic sounds within this film are important to listen to. 

Titles

The tittles used in this opening scene is only the title of the film which is diplayed in black why, this helps make the the title of the film stand out to the audience as it is in contrasting colours, which in turn helps the audience to remember the name of the film. 

This will help me when i come to create my film opening because many aspects of this opening scene are similar to the aspects i want to include in my opening scene to my film.
